This is known as a caloric surplus, and it forces the body to store these left over calories in some form for later use. That form is most often body fat. The good news however is that the opposite of this scenario has the opposite result. Meaning, if the amount of calories being consumed is consistently less than the amount of calories being burned, we lose weight.
